EMOTIONAL RESPONSE THERAPY

Train to be an ERT therapist

Three days training can provide you with the skills you need to offer ERT to your clients either as a standalone therapy or in combination with other therapies you already practice.

Why learn ERT?

The aim of any therapy is to provide people with a service that can help them recover from distress in as short a time frame as possible whilst being as easy for the client as possible. ERT is able to offer this.

If you would like to help people reduce their emotional and psychological distress in a way that is both kind and sensitive to the difficulties clients experience in therapy then training in ERT is highly recommended.

The aim of the training is to support delegates who undertake ERT training to become accomplished ERT practitioners, so they can begin to offer this therapy to their clients immediately following training.

The supervision support over two sessions further enhances your skills in this approach through sharing experiences with colleagues and receiving support to develop your competency. This aids good practice and high quality care for the clients with whom you work.

The ERT Training Progamme

Emotional Response Therapy is a simple yet highly effective therapy. Behind the simplicity of the procedure is a detailed theory formulated through in depth research into neuroscience. The course goes beyond learning the procedure, it also looks at the neuroscience that sits behind ERT and techniques and approaches to implement it effectively with clients.

The training course is presented in an easily accessible way, you don’t need any prior experience or knowledge of neuroscience to understand how this relates to trauma. The aim of the training is to teach a new therapy grounded in research and make this accessible to all therapists. By increasing your understanding of biological mechanisms, you can begin to make effective therapeutic changes that better help your clients.

The Science

The course covers the neuroscience of how we develop trauma, how we hold on to trauma and how we can reduce or get rid of trauma.

It explores our neurological and physiological response to traumatic events, including the role of the hypothalamus, hippocampus and amygdala and how they interact and produce hormones adrenaline and cortisol. This section also looks at why these brain structures and hormones and neurotransmitters exist and the similarities and differences we have with other organisms.

The second section covers the role of memory and synaptic plasticity and explores genetics and survival.

The third section looks more deeply at areas such as synaptic plasticity and homoeostasis and how they can be influenced through simple therapeutic methodologies to help people work through their trauma.

The Procedure

During the course participants are introduced to the ERT procedure and are given opportunity to practice applying it. The training is interactive and encourages reflection and discussion around the experience of both applying and receiving ERT therapy.

The Application

In order to help clients, therapists need to know more that how to apply a therapy. The ERT training covers aspects of therapy practice such as history taking, formulation, and working with complex clients. ERT is unique in that it can be applied by clients themselves and the training looks at how to help clients practice ERT in order to take it on as a self help technique for everyday issues alongside its use within therapy sessions.
